CYPHER DIGITAL SAVES DAYS WITH DC-645

Kendall-based firm, Cypher Digital have invested in a Duplo DC-645 Production Colour Finisher to add to their current finishing portfolio in order to reduce costs and speed up turn-around times.
In its 15 year history, Cypher has evolved into one of the North-Wests largest Digital Print and Design houses, offering a full communications package to its clients that includes; web-design, exhibition stands, vehicle graphics as well as other cross media communication technologies.
Key to their success, was the early adoption of a web-to-print system allowing potential customers to instantly obtain quotes and place orders online. This enabled Cypher to draw in clients from as far afield as Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. As web-to-print has become more competitive, the company acted quickly to reduce costs and time spent finishing by automating the process. Paul Calland, Managing Director of Cypher Digital explains:
The benefit of the DC-645 became immediately apparent during the demonstration when it finished a greetings card job in 3 hours, just one week before the same job had taken 3 days using a guillotine and a creaser.
Cypher were originally looking to invest in a simple business card cutter with the possibility of finishing other applications such as greetings cards. Glendale Presentation & Graphics, their local print finishing equipment supplier, quickly realised the DC-645 was the perfect solution to Cyphers finishing needs. 'Unlike other devices, the Duplo DC-645 was capable of finishing a wide variety of print applications to more-or-less any size, which was just what they were looking for.' said Alan Smith, Area Sales Manager of Glendale.
'One of our biggest problems was aligning our creased cards, so being able to crease and cut in one pass was a major benefit, as we could guarantee accuracy and consistency. The addition of perforating was a big plus, as we had not previously had this capability in house explains Mr. Calland.
The versatility of the DC-645 has enabled Cypher to offer their customers a much wider range of products than ever before. 'We are now offering customers, folded, roll-fold, or almost any other innovative variations on standard applications such as business cards'
'As part of the DC-645 purchase I received a sample presentation pack, which allows me to show my customers the whole range of applications we are now able to offer. Just yesterday, a local customer requested some fairly basic A5 flyers, and walked away with 500 pocket-sized mini brochures having seen one of the samples.'
Mr Calland concludes: 'It has been a very tough time for our industry, however we seem to have weathered the worst of the storm and as a company have managed to keep hold of what I believe is a very strong team here at Cypher. With business now showing some signs of picking up and the addition of our DC-645, we feel well positioned to realise our full potential going forward.'
The DC-645 is a multi finishing device which enables cutting, slitting, creasing and perforating functions all in one single sheet pass. Aimed at the digital print market, the DC-645 is ideal for multi-application print rooms producing anything from brochures to business cards to flyers in a short space of time.
The Cypher sale is one of many recent sales where Duplo dealers have started working more closely with Duplos direct sales force in a more customer focused selling approach.
Tony Lock, Managing Director Duplo UK explains, 'Our priority is ensuring the customer gets the correct solution for their business, regardless of the Duplo sales channel. For example a package may include a combination of our larger finishing kit, primarily sold by our direct sales team and our smaller low-end products, sold by our many dealers and it is important we meet the customers requirement. Therefore we have now introduced processes to ensure that our direct sales team can work in synergy with our dealers and vice versa. Glendale, with the Cypher deal, have embraced this new model and proved that it can work very well'
