Operation of the SpeedBind is via an intuitive touchscreen control panel. The touchscreen controls the binder settings for, mode of operation, glue temperatures, clamp pressure, clamping time and speed. Set up time is a matter of seconds with quality consistent results across different book sizes. No skilled operator is required, minimal training is needed to start production.
Spine preparation on the SpeedBind range is via the extra durable milling and notching disc. This disc offers 20 milling teeth and two notching blades. Before any glue is applied to the spine, the book block passes over the disc and a combination of the milling and notching tools break up the paper fibre on the book spine. This process allows for superior glue penetration of the sheets which in turn, improves the quality of the bind strength.
The SpeedBind accommodates twin glue tanks for spine and side application. This allows different types of glue to be used for implementation. A stronger glue may be used in the spine tank for better bind results, this may take longer to cure than a standard glue that may be used for side glue requirements. However, the more vigorous glue for both spine and side gluing can also be used to simplify the procedure. Also included is the new tail structure, this helps to stabilise the glue amount on the spine before the book block meets the cover. The tail structure removes excess glue which helps to produce better forming of the book cover.
The clamping station on the SpeedBind has adjustable pressure. Not all books require the same clamp pressure, books can be under or over clamped which will affect the quality of the square on the bound spine. This isn’t an issue on the SpeedBind range. It's possible to reduce or increase, depending on the requirement, the pressure applied to the spine to negate any issues with book clamping problems. It's also possible to adjust the amount of time the book is clamped, depending on the cover and sheets used this will also increase the bind quality of the finished presentation.
Included with the SpeedBind is a paper dust extractor. Paper dust particles can build up in perfect binders during spine preparation, this happens when the milling and notching of the paper fibres take place. This dust extractor works during the milling process and paper particles are stored in a cloth bag helping to reduce any build up of paper in the binder. Often this is an additional cost on binders, it’s a standard feature of the SpeedBind range.
In addition to binding of books the SpeedBind offers the flexibility of being able to produce pads for multiple purposes.
